Healthy & Sustainable Features
Prioritizing a space for relaxation, we made sure that the design of the space is clutter-free. Installed by the entrance is a wooden wall to hide appliances like the washer and the dryer, together with pull-out shoe storage. Hidden away inside the kitchen cabinets are the wine fridge and extractor fans.
In addition to the clutter-free design, we also added a section for meditation and exercise by the living area, where the warmth of natural sunlight from the big sliding windows is experienced. Right across the room, a hidden prayer cabinet sits next to the bioethanol fireplace.
The fireplace creates a cosy feeling and does not have the soot that comes from owning a traditional furnace. It uses clean-burning ethanol which doesn’t produce an abundance of smoke. Regardless, the home's space is properly ventilated with fresh natural air coming in and out of the space, and a fan that’s made out of sustainable materials.
Materials like the repurposed tree stumps used as the coffee tables, the rattan or wood used for the pendant lights in the master bedroom, and the sustainable wood used for the bar stools were chosen to keep the space sustainable as well as maintain a biophilic design.
Other features we included to ensure a healthy household are the usage of low VOC materials for good sleep quality and the inclusion of pet-friendly. The lighting design was well-thought-out since the flat was initially very dark. We used indirect lighting that’s good for the eyes, and light scenes that calibrate from energizing to relaxing to encourage healthy sleep cycles by emulating nature, enhancing the body's circadian rhythm.
