Do water filters have to be ugly? Clean design with clean water

Healthy & Sustainable

Fresh clean drinking water in Asia all too often comes out of a bottle, rather than a tap. Tap water is often shunned for fear of chemicals or sediments from polluted water supplies. Even if the main water supply is up to standard, old or poorly maintained pipes in buildings may bring nasty and dangerous chemicals into water. In the USA some of the most common contaminates include lead, benzene, chromium and other scary carcinogens.

Having a water filter installed in your business or home can cut out these contaminates as well as the need for bottles. Fewer bottles means less energy and expense getting the water to you. No empty plastic bottles after. Even with recycling, no bottle to begin with is still better. So does installing a water filter seems like a good idea? Nobody wants some huge, ugly set of pipes and filter tubes reminiscent of a science lab. Some of today’s water filtration systems can be works of art as well as works of science!

There is a wide range of filters available. Look for a reverse osmosis filter as they are the most consistently effective. Carbon filters are cheaper but less effective generally at getting the arsenic, fluoride, hexavalent chromium, nitrates and perchlorate out of the water.

I have just installed a reverse osmosis filter in our home. The results shocked us! Here is a test done in our office with Hong Kong tap water, reverse osmosis water from my home and distilled Watson’s water from our water dispenser at Liquid’s office. A metal filament was inserted in the water for 3 minutes that solidified the particles in the water and the results are above.

Benefits to health, reduced impact and cost in transporting bottled water, and eliminating waste plastic bottles make installing water filters a win/win/win scenario to us at Liquid!

Liquid’s Top 5 picks for most beautiful water filters:

1. Dornbracht Water Dispenser, Arcticle number: 17851680. Also available in black.

2. Dornbracht Water Dispenser, Arcticle number: 17851875.

3. CMB Water Dispenser

4. TR-5 Built in Water Dispenser

5. Steaming Water Tap GN1100

Liquid suggests the use water filters in all of our kitchen designs. Our last image above is a current project that we are working on in Wan Chai, Mid-Levels, Hong Kong. Quality green design should always be enjoyed with quality green water supply. We’ll drink to that!
